Barely hours after Nigeria's Davido jetted out of the country after delivering a masterpiece of a show at the just concluded Raha Fest, a local media house published a prank that did not go down well with a section of social media users.

News erupted and spread like wildfire after K24 published that the star had allegedly been arrested with a haul of cocaine worth millions.

Davido didn’t take the post lightly and on Tuesday issued a statement saying the article was in bad taste.

He added that he has never been arrested for any crime, terming the publication ‘irresponsible’.

“Fam it has come to my attention that false reports regarding an arrest circulated online on April 1st, which has since led to a barrage of calls. I want to assure my fans that these reports are entirely untrue.

“…I’d also like to note that I have never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world…I find the fabrication of allegations of such international crimes extremely irresponsible regardless of the light of ‘April Fools’, read the statement in part.

The article has since been pulled down but Davido said his lawyer is seeking legal recourse against those responsible for the misinformation.
