Three suspected robbers, including a 20-year-old house help, are set to have their case of attempted robbery heard in May next year.

They stand accused of threatening a taxi driver with the intent to rob him of his car.

Peter Gathesa was rescued at the police station entrance after Joy Mumbi, 20, Kelvin Murithi, 22, and Julius Njeru, aged 25, attempted to rob him of his Toyota Ractis valued at Sh1 million along the superhighway in Nairobi on November 19.

The trio was dramatically apprehended by the police after Gathesa drove to the police station in distress, seeking rescue. The suspects allegedly resorted to actual violence, strangling him during the incident.

According to the particulars of the case, the three had requested via an online app to go to State House Road. Mumbi occupied the co-driver’s seat, while Murithi and Njeru sat in the back. Along the way, Murithi reportedly brandished a toy pistol, ordering Gathesa to stop the car.

Makadara Senior Principal Magistrate Gerald Mutiso released them on a Sh500,000 bond.
