Naivasha woman found dead outside her in-laws home was murdered, autopsy reveals

It is now emerging that a woman whose body was found outside her in-laws’ home in a Naivasha estate was murdered, contrary to the initial belief that she had committed suicide.

A postmortem examination on the body of Jane Wambui, 33, has ruled out suicide.

It revealed that Wambui, a mother of two, was stabbed in the left side of her chest by a sharp object, leading to her death.

Last week, there were claims that the woman committed suicide outside her in-laws’ home after falling out with her husband.

But a post-mortem done at Naivasha sub-county hospital mortuary has revealed otherwise. He relatives have called for justice.

Naivasha DCIO Isaac Kiama said officers had recorded statements from her in-laws and husband, who were among the first people on the scene.

“It was originally thought that the woman committed suicide, but the autopsy has proven otherwise. We are questioning some people over the incident,” he said.

The development came hours after 30-year-old woman was raped, murdered and her body dumped off the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

The body was found near Delamere Farm, 5km from Naivasha Town, with initial investigations indicating that she was killed elsewhere.

According to John Kinuthia, the chairperson of Naivasha GBV cluster group, cases of femicide have been on the rise in the town.

He noted that at least five women had been murdered in the last five months, raising anxiety and fear in the lakeside town.

“We are deeply worried by the rising cases of murder targeting women, and we hope that the culprits behind these beastly actions will be arrested,” he said.

Elsewhere, a police officer was fatally stabbed while responding to a distress call in Dandora, Nairobi, raising renewed concerns about the safety of residents in the area.

Layford Gitonga died on August 2, 2025 as he attempted to rescue a man who was under attack by a group of assailants.

Preliminary investigations led to the arrest of Dorine Veronica Odimbo on October 3 in the Makongeni area, while her co-accused, Sylvester Ooko Oduor, was apprehended two days later.
