Kajiado leaders alarmed by poor KCSE performance

A crisis meeting has been held by stakeholders in Kajiado County over deteriorating education standards.

This followed an assessment report by the County Directorate of Education showing that 78 per cent of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates scored D Plus and below.

The report says only a few managed to join university after attaining C Plus.

During the meeting that brought together school principals, boards, chairmen, parents’ representatives, and directors of studies, it emerged that Kajiado had produced only 15 Grade As in the last three academic years.

Most bursaries also go to schools outside Kajiado. “We are in a terrible academic hole. We are seeing a lot of wastage of our KCSE candidates who are scoring low marks," said Governor Joseph Ole Lenku.
