Women may fight polygamy but truth is it favours them

In the same way we have interfered with the ozone layer and depleted what was intended to be the natural blanket for planet Earth and its contents, we have destabilised many other setups.

Our growing population has caused massive pressure on forests and opened up hitherto stable farms to massive erosion. Talk of GMOs and the many scientific advancements of the food front that ostensibly has opened the floodgate that is cancer today.

Each day we continue to expose the subject of the environment to various stresses which we then try to address by setting commissions of inquiries and mitigation committees that can do nothing about nature.

Well, all the hard science aside, let's narrow the discussion down to the simple sociology of the human aspects that affect our daily lives.

We might as well open our eyes to the hard facts and begin to accommodate them as we strive to internalise the challenges and expectations of the modern-day relationships debate.

To justify polygamy or castigate it is something that has stubbornly stayed with us through the past generation since Beijing 95’.

In fact, in the recent past, we have celebrated the gains as cases of polygamy have dwindled to near-death, with every ruling on divorce getting tougher on men.

Lately though, there is a new wave of resistance emerging – of men starting to push back. They want to reclaim what was originally their space even in the face of hard laws trying to muzzle them to accept the strange arrangement of one-man-one woman.

Polygamy is a largely justified concept that has endured unnecessary beating from the very persons who need it most - women.

In silence we understand the background, but because the excitement of equaling everything men do is the order of the day, we fight it as if it is an illegality that should qualify as a capital offence.

To threaten the men even further we have now gone all rogue to declare that for every co-wife added by a man we too would also recruit an extra co-husband to join the fold.

Of course, we know that is something no man can stand. It is the perfect set-up for separation.

While evolutionarily men and women have stayed the same in terms of their biological composition, we have modified the seal and interfered with the ozone layer that shielded relationships. Men have remained firing on all cylinders just like in the past.

They manufacture spermatozoa throughout, seeds that swim endlessly in their small sacks looking for an exit. On the other hand, women are seasonal by design.

This could be a possible pointer to why men wear sulking faces and are moody at work.

What would make men happy when they are waiting for memsahib to regain her interest in sex and the taxman has taken every expendable income that could be redirected to temporary pleasure during the frequent downtimes at home? Some things are out of our control as ladies.
